There are some funny (and I don’t mean HUMOROUS) things going on in some of our Blackboard courses that seem to be the direct results of using funny (and again, I don’t mean humorous!) characters in file names, assignment titles, and columns in the grade center. This has caused issues like not being able to open documents or to upload documents properly.
Here’s a good rule of thumb for file names: no more than 16 characters, and all alpha-numeric characters, and perhaps an underscore. NO OTHER CHARACTERS SHOULD BE USED. When naming an assignment in Blackboard, it is advisable to use this same naming convention. Also, when giving a name to a manually-created column in your Grade Center, please follow the same rules.
